Family Therapy

Family therapy – Insight, connection and healing within the family system

Within a family or household, tensions can arise that affect daily life. Perhaps there is ongoing conflict, disturbed communication, or as a parent you feel powerless over a child’s behavior. Sometimes tensions arise after major events, such as divorce, illness, loss or migration. Loyalty issues, cultural differences, generational dynamics or unspoken expectations can also play on for years and create tension underneath.

Family therapy – or broader systems therapy – provides a place to reflect together on what is going on, how you affect each other and what is needed to break patterns. In family therapy, we examine interactions, roles and mutual dynamics. Not by pointing the finger at one person, but with attention to the whole. There is room for everyone’s perspective, feelings and needs. From recognition and insight, there is often room again for understanding, recovery and connection.

Themes you can go to family therapy for

  • Recurring tensions or misunderstandings between family members
  • Difficulty communicating or listening within the family
  • Loyalty conflicts or clashing values between generations
  • Conflicts after divorce, newly formed families or co-parenting
  • Impact of illness, loss or mental illness within the family
  • Differences in parenting styles or cultural norms
  • Children or adolescents with special needs or behavioral problems
  • The influence of family history or migration stories on the present
  • Need for more mutual support, connection or alignment

Methodology

In my practice, I offer family therapy from both a systemic and integrative approach. This means that I not only look at the interrelationships and patterns, but also pay attention to the unique history, cultural background and dynamics of your family. Every situation is different – which is why I work in a customized way, carefully attuned to what is going on and what is needed.

My integrative method focuses on the whole: on feelings, thoughts, behavior and the broader context in which you function. This broad and personal approach helps not only to gain insight into what is stuck, but also to explore deeper layers and make room for lasting change. By combining techniques and insights from various therapeutic streams, I connect flexibly to what is supportive at that moment – whether that is clarity, processing, practical tools or more connection.

Sessions can take place with the whole family, part of the family or other important family members. Individual sessions can also be part of the program. Often a short course of a few sessions brings new insights, movement and improvement in the mutual relationships.
